Tillandsia caput medusae

Here’s one of my Tillandsia, aka ‘air plants’ in bloom for the first time. This one is the largest of my Tillandsia measuring in at ca. 7-8” diameter and 8-9” tall. Currently, it has quite a few buds and a half dozen blooms. I chose to focus on the stamens and pistil, using the reddish buds as a backdrop to highlight the rich and contrasting colors. In a week or two, this and my other tropical plants will go outside to enjoy the warmth of the summer sun.

For you photographers, this image is the result of focus stacking 16 images that were acquired using a Canon 100mm macro lens.

Best wishes,

Bob
