Lupe: 2010 - 2023

Lupe: 2010 - 2023

Lupe, my dearest and most affectionate cat, died peacefully this week. This is a memorial to the love she shared with me for 13 years.

Born on May 23, 2010, she and her brother, Juan, and sister, Lola entered my life on October 17, 2010. Although the smallest of the trio, Lupe was ounce for ounce nothing but love and affection. Each and every night asI sat on the couch in front of the television, Lupe would be there, often on the back of the couch with her head lying on my shoulder, frequently playing with my hair or simply purring. She was quick to hop on the bed while I read a book, and found great joy in kneading the bed covers while on my stomach. She always slept at one corner of the bed. She was my “alarm clock”, never failing to get me up well before sunrise for her breakfast and my rowing exercises. Her purr was a constant part of her life, and something I particularly miss.

Lupe succumbed to a nasal lymphoma that was first detected in mid-July. Words cannot convey my deep appreciation and thanks to Lupe’s vet, Dr. Jocelyn Riehl, and the staff of Paradise Animal Hospital whose care and attention to Lupe’s needs was a blessing to me. Their words of comfort helped during Lupe’s passing and I thank them for all their efforts.

I have several dozen (maybe hundreds) of photos of Lupe, and I would like to share them all with you, since there’s no good way to tell you how wonderful she was a pet, a companion, and a friend. I’ve chosen six, as representatives of Lupe and her life, including her final moments. They’re simple snapshots, but mean so much to me. I hope they impart a bit of the love Lupe and I shared.

As always, I enjoy reading your comments, so please feel free, and thank you for stopping by.
