Homeward bound

Homeward Bound, ca. 1982

From 1981 to 1987, I lived in San Diego, CA., specifically in Pacific Beach, and worked in La Jolla. I was never more than a few minutes from the ocean and relished being near it. I sailed frequently while in San Diego and have many wonderful memories on the waters off of California and Mexico.

Recently, I have been digitizing the hundreds of 35 mm slides I took while living in California, most of which I haven't laid eyes on for decades. Seeing them again brought back those wonderful memories, and none did so as much as "Homeward Bound". I don't recall the precise time this photo was taken, but my best guess is sometime in early 1982, probably February or March. More than the memories, the image also is so quintessential to what sailing is to me; I can almost hear those gulls crying out as we make for the breakwater and home port. I hope it evokes similar, good, warm feelings in you too.

Best wishes,
