Dance of the cobras

Hybrid Sarracenia 1, color

Dance of the cobras

Serracenia pitcher plants are native to North America, growing in bogs and wetlands. All are carnivorous, trapping their insect prey by luring them into their throat filled with a sweet liquid. Once there, slick plant walls and stiff hairs that point downwards into the throat thwart the insect's attempts to escape.

I have several species and hybrids growing in my bog garden, including this hybrid miniature that forms nests of cobra (snake) pitchers. Beautiful and deadly, that’s if you’re a small insect.

Enjoy.
