Luna Moth

Luna Moth

The luna moth (Actias luna), also called the American moon moth, is a large moth that I occasionally see in and around the Baltimore area in the summer. Its wingspan is ca. 7 inches and has this beautiful lime-green, bluish tinged wings, white body and crimson band on the leading edge of its wings.

I only recently found this photograph in a CD collection I had saved. It was taken in 2005 with a Sony DSC F707, the first DSLR I owned. The original image was saved as a jpg. I don’t think the F707 had the capability for RAW files, but it may just be that I hadn’t realized the benefits of saving in that format. No matter. I had a lot of fun processing the jpg, and think the final result was worth the effort. I trust you’ll find the photo and this gorgeous moth worth a few moments of viewing.

Thanks as always for taking time out of your busy day. Comments are most welcomed, as are Likes.
