Miltonia Macro Panorama

Miltonia Macro Panorama

My Miltonia “Sunset” orchids are in full bloom, with their ‘cilantro’ fragrance filling the air each morning. As long time readers of this blog may recall, I originally purchased this orchid in 1993 (or around that year) from Stewart’s Orchids. It has withstood the test of time, and I love it.

On the photo: This was intended strictly as an experiment in the use of panoramas in macrophotography, with an emphasis on shallow depth of field and a large amount of background bokeh. In both the latter, the experiment failed, but I liked the result and wanted to share it. I have rethought my approach and have several ideas on further reducing DOF and increasing bokeh. So, plan on seeing more of this type of photography in the future.
