The Forest Floor

Another photo from a recent hike along Liberty Reservoir in Sykesville, MD. Along the slope leading to the shoreline and under the canopy of southern pines lay beds of these beauties: Wild Blue Phlox (Phlox divaricata L.). They are among the earliest plants to flower in this area and a good sign that warmer weather awaits in the upcoming days and weeks.
